Sex and the City

Posted by Amber in Review

Yes, I was one of the crazy women.  I could not wait to go see this movie.  I watched every episode of the show, every Sunday night, looking forward to the jaunty theme music and the punny humor.  I cried when it ended.  I know, sad. With that said, I loved the movie.  It picks up four years after the show ends.  Carrie and Big (Mr. John James Preston) are still happily in love, Steve and Miranda are potentially not, Samantha and Smith have flown the coop, and Charlotte and Harry are so happy they’re boring.

The movie is very long, the length of 5 television episodes, but I enjoyed every minute of it.  Unfortunately, I can’t look at the film objectively.  As a fan of the show, I loved it.  I don’t know how it stands on its own as a movie.  If you watched the show, don’t you dare miss it.  If you didn’t watch the show, and a group of girl friends invite you, I still think it would be fun.

The Strangers

This movie was awful.I felt bad for Liv Tyler, because she probably went into this thinking it would be a lot better.  It truly had a lot of potential, and maybe the original cut was higher in quality.  The way the movie flowed and the sheer number of things that are just ignored or not explained lead me to believe that they cut the hell out of this movie and figured that people would forgive.

I usually can forgive lack of explanation when done correctly.  I enjoyed Cloverfield.  I have no idea what was going on or where the monster came from.  You can’t really get that from the movie, but the fabric of the movie doesn’t require it.  Not so in The Strangers.  You do need more explanation.I should have seen this sooner, and written about it sooner, so that if you did see it, I could have tried to talk you out of it.
