Jumper

I liked it.A kid figures out he can transport anywhere that he has seen and runs away while in high school.  He gets into “banking” and decides to visit his home town eight years later to reunite with the girl he liked in high school. Some crazy church people hunt the transporting type and he has to get away. It got right to the point and told the story.  It leaves you wondering about some things, and leaves it open for a sequel.  Makes you wish you could transport. Rental.

Eye, The

Posted by Chris in Review

This was a pretty good movie.  Like most remakes that originate from Asia it had some creepy camera work.A blind lady has her cornias replaced and starts to see dead people and those crazy shadow things from Ghost (circa 1990).  Of course everyone thinks she is crazy EXCEPT for that ONE guy.Even with the normal plot twists and those moments where you say “why would she do that?” it is worth seeing.  Probably worth renting, but I don’t think it would be as scary on a small tv.

Rambo

Posted by Chris in Review

Why wouldn’t you see this?Don’t look for a plot, it is all about the action and some of the coolest ways to see people die in fantasy land.  I liked it.Rambo is living in outside Burma and captures Cobras and Pythons.  He has a boat that a bunch of church people want to borrow to get into Burma to deliver medication. The church people get in but can’t get out so, dun dun dun dunnnn, Rambo comes to the aid of the weak. HGH makes old people buff. Scary. You can wait on the rental.

Cloverfield

Posted by Chris in Review

Do not go see this if you don’t feel well or get headaches easily.  There is so much camera shaking their were point where I really wished I had some Advil. It wouldn’t have been worth watching if it was not shot the way it was, with the first person style.  If you are going just to see what the monster is, you will probably be disappointed. In the middle of a party a monster attacks a city and a small group venture into the city to track down an injured friend.  This camera catches their trip and shows you what they see.Does not live up to the hype that you felt when you saw the first 30 second trailer but worth seeing from home.  Rent.

Atonement

You aren’t going to believe this, but it was actually good.  This was definately a chick flick but I couldn’t help but like it.  I liked how you saw things from different views and they left nothing to wonder about.  It was a slow moving movie but you never really noticed until you looked at the clock.I don’t really want to get into what it was all about, but it is definately worth seeing.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Posted by Amber in Review

I have been so excited about this movie since I heard that Tim Burton was making it and that Johnny Depp had signed on.  Really, once you heard Tim Burton was in, is there really a doubt who would be the leading man?  My excitement was solely based on the names attached and the finale of Jersey Girl.  I knew nothing of the Sweeney Todd story. Johnny Depp is Benjamin Barker, a barber falsely accused and wrongfully imprisoned in order to separate him from his wife and child.  The evil Judge Turpin is played perfectly by Alan Rickman; he is greasy and horrible.  Benjamin Barker returns to London after his imprisonment with a new name and a new look (very Edward Scissorhands), and moves in with Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter).  Together they find common ground in their squishy morals. I really enjoyed this movie.  It was extremely bloody, but it is all presented in such a cartoonish and gleeful way.  This is definitely not Disney, folks.  Go in prepared for a murderous free for all, set to music, of course.   Congratulations to Johnny Depp for his Best Actor Oscar Nomination!

Juno

Posted by Amber in Review

Juno made me so happy.  I wanted to leave the theater and walk right back in to see it again.  And I’m going to spend far too much time talking about how it was perfectly cast. Ellen Page is Juno, a sixteen year old girl who gets pregnant.  The father is her friend Bleeker, portrayed by Michael Cera (of Arrested Development fame). Juno decides that she is going to have the baby and give it up for adoption, and also decides to find the couple in the local penny saver ads. She finds her perfect couple in record time.  Vanessa (Jennifer Garner) and Mark (Jason Bateman) Loring have the perfect house in the perfect suburb and they cannot wait to be parents.  They are from the beginning too good to be true. My favorite thing about the movie is the interaction of Juno with her father and step-mother.  Played by Allison Janney and J.K. Simmons, they have the funniest and the most poignant lines in the whole film.  Juno thinks she needs to find perfection, and I think they make her see that sometimes it doesn’t work that way.  But you can get pretty close. I loved this movie and I loved the music.  It perfectly mirrored the quirky tone of the film, which is what a good soundtrack should do.  It is definitely one of those movies that can make you laugh and cry. Congratulations to Juno on its four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture!

30 Days of Night

This movie was actually pretty good.  I had heard that it was a good movie but for some reason the cast led me to believe otherwise.  Josh Hartnett does a good job in the movie and has made me not think so bad about his movies anymore.”Tucker” (Ben Foster) makes an appearance in the movie, and does very well again.  I think with this movie and 3:10 to Yuma he is due. This movie is a Vampire flick if you didn’t already know and a pretty good one.  They don’t make clear why the things ever come but hey, it was based on a comic and even though I usually don’t like that this one is worth getting.Don’t buy it, it is probably too late to see in theatres, so definately rent.

The Bucket List

Posted by Chris in Review

These two are the new Walter Mathau and Jack Lemmon.  This is not the type of movie I usually watch but, man was this good.  These two are so funny together and it even has some sweet moments. Two dying men decide to make a list of things they want to do before they die, and they do them.  They come up with some cool things and it gets you thinking. See it before it leaves theatres, if not, buy it.

Juno

Eh, If you haven’t seen it then it is worth watching.  If you have to choose between this and something else, choose something else.  This movie can wait.  It is a Napoleon Dynamite type film.  It had good humor but it was just not much of a story, if it weren’t for the quick wit of the characters it would have sucked. The music is ANNOYING.Rent it.
